Villa Alycia

Luxury four bedroom villa in Turkey

Dalyan - one of the most beautiful places in Turkey

Dalyan is a small town, linked to the sea by the Dalyan river, which welcomes tourists and day-trippers, but which nevertheless remains unspoilt with no high-rise development. The surrounding area is entirely agricultural with pomegranate orchards, orange and lemon groves, and a few remaining cotton fields.

Dalyan is remarkable for a number of reasons (besides the guaranteed sunshine and slow pace of life):

• It is a UNESCO World Heritage Site, Dalyan’s famous Iztuzu beach is protected for nesting loggerhead turtles.

• Dalyan is steeped in ancient history and there are many important archaeological sites in the immediate area, including Kaunos, part of which is visible from the villa.

• The Dalyan River is famous not only for boat trips but also for its hot springs and mud baths. In one direction the river meanders (a gentle 20 minute journey by river bus) through reed beds to Iztuzu beach – a 3 mile long sand spit of gently shelving silver sand with a beach bar at either end. One end also houses a university-run turtle sanctuary which you can visit.

• In the other direction the Dalyan River takes you past Dalyan’s mud baths to Koycegiz Lake, a huge completely unspoilt inland fresh-water lake (a former crater lake) with stunning mountain views, and Sultaniye hot springs and mud baths where the locals go to bathe in the mineral waters, believed to have healing properties.

Dalyan is situated about half an hour’s drive from Dalaman International Airport, which is served by most UK airports.

Our Villa is in a quiet semi-residential location in the old Maraş area (away from the busier tourism spots) on the outskirts of Dalyan, about 200 metres from the banks of the Dalyan River. We are five minutes’ walk from the best of Dalyan’s restaurants (wonderfully located at the riverside, with seating right on the river’s edge and the best-ever views of the Rock Tombs, which are illuminated at night). We are 3 minutes’ walk from a corner shop, 5 minutes’ from a supermarket and a 10-minute walk into town, where there are restaurants, bars, shops, banks etc.

Things to Do..

Locally
Dalyan is a wonderful place to just totally chill out. The weather is guaranteed to be excellent in the Summer months and so swimming is always possible whether in the sea, swimming pool, fresh-water Koycegiz Lake or even in the Dalyan River itself. Boat trips (with on-board barbecue) are a must, going up river to Koycegiz Lake and Sultaniye, down through the reed beds to Iztuzu Beach to sunbathe or around the coast to uninhabited bays such as Bakardi or Ekincik Bays. Visits to the mud-baths, hot springs and Turkish steam bath and massage (Hamam) which can also be easily arranged and shouldn’t be missed off your itinerary.

For the more Energetic
A number of markets provide excellent opportunities for both food shopping and for those presents to take home. In Fethiye you can even choose your own fish from the fish market and have it cooked at the restaurant nearby. Dalyan and Koycegiz Markets are also very good places to haggle.
Visits to Kaunos to see the ancient ruins across the river and white water rafting on the Dalaman River can also be arranged. – Did I say there was a lot to do?

Further Afield
The local mini-bus (Dolmus) will take you very cheaply to nearby towns and villages without the need for a car, although we can arrange car hire for you if you would like to travel further afield.
The dolmus will take you to the southern end of Itzuzu Beach to see the loggerhead turtle sanctuary. Further afield is Sarigerme Beach which is lovely for sunbathing; also Fethiye and Gocek which are good starting points for the 12-Island Tour, where you can snorkle at one of the many stops during the day; as always, the barbecue is included.

Historic sites within easy reach by car include the ancient ruins of Ephesus and Hierapolis, the stunning hot calcium springs and startling white travertine mountainside of Pamukkale and the extraordinary underground city of Cappadocia.
